Water Recycling: How Car Washes Are Redefining Water Reuse

Droughts are becoming more frequent and severe across Canada. The recent water ban in Edmonton highlighted this, but it’s a concern far beyond that city.  British Columbia has issued warnings about potential water shortages, and dry seasons across Western Canada raise concerns about drought’s impact on everything from agriculture to tourism. With these challenges looming, innovative solutions are more important than ever.

Water Recycling: A Solution for Car Washes (and Beyond)

An all-time favorite solution is being brought to the conversation: water recycling. By treating and reusing wastewater, the demand for freshwater sources like rivers and lakes decreases, which especially impacts water-scarce regions like Alberta and British Columbia. This approach isn’t just theoretical; it’s already being put into practice.

How Mint Smartwash Recycles Water

At Mint Smartwash we prioritize responsible water usage by recycling 80% of the water used in our car washes.

Our advanced on-site water plant collects, filters, and treats the water through a rigorous multi-stage process before reusing it for the next set of cars,  ensuring the recycled water meets the strictest environmental standards.

We extract the dirty sediment that comes off each vehicle and dispose of it safely at the city water treatment facility for processing. This ensures none of the car wash water ends up in city storm drains or local waterways like it does when vehicles are washed in driveways.

This commitment to water recycling stems from our deep respect for the environment and the communities we serve. We believe in leading by example and minimizing our environmental footprint.

Leading the Charge in Sustainable Water Use

Water recycling is a critical tool for ensuring a sustainable future. Mint Smartwash is proud to be at the forefront of promoting these practices in the car wash industry.

We like the green clean and are always looking for a sustainable shine, that’s why we are proud to be the greenest wash in Canada!
